Facebook Leak: Getting Spam Calls from 022 Numbers? How to Block them on Android.

Since the Facebook Leaked Data that was published for everyone, I've been getting scam calls from 022 numbers. So I set about figuring out how to block the numbers.

Once I entered the numbers in to Google, they show that they were from Nigeria, Mumbai, or Mallow in County Cork. It's definitely those lads in Cork doing this. As Nigerians and Mumbai people are not stupid enough to waste their time on this low quality scam.

I picked up the call once and it was a prerecorded message, with the male Siri voice saying:

"We are calling from the Department of Social Protection, your Public Service Number has some suspicious activity on it. As such there is a warrant out for your arrest for Money Laundering and Drugs. Press 1 to be forwarded to the Investigation Team"

This is when I hung up. I have no idea what happens if you press 1, maybe you get forwarded to a premium rate phone number and get a chargeback.

If this was the case, the Guards from CAB, would be on my doorstep. I'd tell the judge that I had a difficult upbringing, and Judge Martin Nolan would let me off scott free. Marty, you're a fucking meme bro, sort yourself out.

The numbers that have called me are:

  • 022484158
  • 022445196
  • 022488946
  • 022567096

Update 13th April 2021: They've switched over to using Irish Mobiles.
So I've been called by this number, and subsequently blocked it.
  • 083 352 6625
I can't block the prefix without cutting everyone who enjoys Three.ie's fantastic network out.
I checked and this number is not in the Facebook Leak.

How to Block these Numbers by the Prefix

You can see these numbers in your Phone Recent Calls.
As they are all from the same country code, 022..., We'll block 022 numbers.

From the recent phone calls screen, click the three dots in the top-right of the screen and click Settings.
Scroll down and choose Blocking settings.

Choose Blocked numbers.

Click the + button, to add a Blocked number. Then Block the 022* prefix. The * in the 022*, is a wildcard, so it will match any number that starts with 022.

Hopefully this will keep the spammers at bay.
