Strava Routes on Garmin Edge: How get get Updated Courses or Routes.

The Problem

You get, or create, a Strava Route, you Star it and it Syncs to your Garmin Edge Device. You want to update the route to change some inaccuracies, or for some other reason. But the change doesn't sync to your Garmin Edge, and you're stuck with the old route.

Sad Times.

The Solution

This works on both Desktop and Mobile, Garmin Connect Website and App.

Desktop or Mobile Website: In Garmin Connect Website Courses Section, you can find your Course and click the "Send to Device" button. This will resync the updated course to your device.

In the Mobile App, you can click Training -> Courses -> choose a course -> Overflow Menu (the three dots) -> Send to Device. This will resync the updated course to your device.

Knowing how to use the "Send to Device" button is also useful in the case that you get a Garmin Connect link to a Course and want to navigate the course on your Edge Head Unit.

Good Times.

I'll guide you through the Step-by-Step Solution below.

The Step-by-Step Solution

The Setup

We see that the route has this section on the right side of the triangle, that we want to remove.

The route on Strava looks like this:

The course on Garmin Connect looks like this:

The course on the Garmin Edge 830 looks like this:

The Change is Made

We change the route on Strava Route Builder:

The updated route now looks like this on Strava:

The updated course on Garmin Connect looks like this:

Now We Sync

Key Point, on Garmin Connect, you press "Send to Device", like this:

On the Desktop Website:

When your Garmin Edge device syncs next, it will update the course.

On the Mobile Website:

This will open Garmin Connect on your Phone and start the Sync. So have your Garmin Edge bluetoothed to your Phone.

In the Garmin Connect Mobile App:

In the Mobile App, you can click Training -> Courses -> choose a course -> Overflow Menu (the three dots) -> Send to Device.

We have the Updated Course on the Device

Finally, after syncing the Garmin Edge 830, we have the updated course on the device:

And this is us done.

I hope you enjoyed,
Luke
